Gig
of the Week |

Pulp, Friday 30th November 2001, 7pm-2am, Brixton Academy Another week and another big big gig at the Academy. They must be doing something right, as bands seem to be falling over each other to play here. Pulp could have sold out Wembley Arena or some other enormo-drome but, thankfully, have opted for three consecutive nights at the marginally more initimate Brixton Academy instead. The Friday night looks like being the pick of the three as, not only is it the last date of the tour, but it also goes on until 2am and includes at least a couple of hours of Desperate DJs. Desperate is a DJing collective featuring Jarvis and a few of his mates. So far they've played at unlikely London venues like The Fortress, The Fringe and Pentonville Prison, so this will be the first time they've taken the club into such a big space. With so much good-vibes amongst the Pulp faithful, whatever they play is bound to go down a storm. During the live set, expect plenty of tracks from the new album We Love Life, including the epic and majestic Sunrise, as well as a few gems from the Britpop Years. As for Jarvis getting all back-to-nature, don't make too much of it. He's still a Londoner for the time being! Support comes from the odd-but-good Fat Truckers, and at £17.50 this represents quite good value considering the other nights are the same price. Brixton
