Gig of the Week

Baptiste, Thursday December 6th, 8pm, Camden Underworld

In another specially organised show Baptiste play their last gig of the year at The Underworld on Thursday December 6th.

Baptiste are worth checking out for many reasons, one of which being their fantastically literate flyers. This quote, from F. Scott Fitgerald's The Great Gatsby, was written on the back of a flyer for a gig earlier this year:
"At the enchanted metropolitan twilight I felt a haunting loneliness sometimes, and felt it in others - poor young clerks who loitered in front of windows waiting until it was time for a solitary restaurant dinner - young clerks in the dusk, wasting the most poignant moments of night and life." Quite sweet really, and a lot more interesting than the usual crap found on flyers.

Their sound, meanwhile, has been described as having all the frantic guitars of the Jesus and Mary Chain, the organic energy of the Velvet Underground and the melodic sensibility of the Go-Betweens.

Doors open at 8pm, Baptiste play at 9pm and the night is headlined by Vermont.
