Gig of the Week

The Flaming Stars, The Garage,
Saturday 19th January 2002

The Flaming Stars have been around for what feels like donkeys-years (whatever happened to that great expression?) and are one of London's most enduring bands. A garage act, in the pre bling-bling sense of the word, and pre-figuring the current wave of snotty-nosed young garage bands by several years, The Stars are also a tender treasure live.

There's a retrospective album in the shops now, so it may be worth investing in before this gig if you haven't heard their stuff before. Song titles like The Face On the Bar Room Floor and Burnt Out Wreck of a Man give clues as to what singer and songwriter Max Decharne is interested in, and old favourite Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye will be well-received if played.
