Gig of the Week

Richard Hawley, Cargo EC2
Wednesday 27th February 2002, 6-10pm

While the prospect of a singer-songwriter playing an intimate gig rarely raises the expectation barometer much past "mildy looking forward to", this one is the exception.

Anyone who had the good fortune to witness Hawley live in 2001, or who heard his gem of an album Late Night Final, will testify to the man's fragil greatness. Even playing an acoustic gig in Borders last year he still managed to generate an atmosphere amongst the cookery books and Photoshop manuals, which is no mean feat.

Support at this gig comes from new City Slang signings St Thomas, whose new album I'm Coming Home was an Xfm Xposure album of the week and whose sound is described as a mixture of Norwegian folk, appalachian country, scratchy blues and distorted pop. Don't miss.
