Gig of the Week

The Vines, Dingwalls/ULU
Tue 9th/Wed 10th April, 8pm

After much soul-searching (would we just be contributing to the hype? are they really that good? but these gigs are already sold out...) The Vines' double whammy of dates in the Capital (as well as a Doves support slot) just had to clinch the coveted gig of the week slot.

While hype alone has undoubtedly helped shift most of the tickets to these sold out gigs, with deranged journalists comparing them to Nirvana and others, perhaps a little more accurately, describing them as "the Australian Strokes", there is a pretty big dose of talent on offer too.

Anyone lucky enough to pick up a copy of their ramshackle debut UK release, The Factory, will know what we're talking about. Everyone else can catch up with new, inevitable NME single of the week, Highly Evolved, which is released just in time for these gigs.

The Vines will no doubt be back in the UK soon, only not at quite such cosy venues. Catch 'em if you can, but if not, you can bet there'll be at every festival going this summer.
