Royksopp
+ Miss Kitten + FC Kahuna + Cosmos
Sat 21st Dec 2002
Brixton Academy
It's
been a good year for all four acts performing tonight, with Royksopp
going from a pretty much unknown Scandinavian dance act to coffee-table
sensations, FC Kahuna finding themselves in the right place at
the right time with their Machine Says Yes album, and Miss Kitten
achieving notoriety at the very least through her many collaborations,
including the release of tracks like Frank Sinatra with The Hacker,
and, with Golden Boy, Rippin Kitten - which almost became the morose
electroclash anthem of choice this summer. Speaking of anthems, Cosmos
(aka Tom "Jedi" Middleton), pretty much achieved that with his
massive crossover hit Take Me With You. Bearing in mind all this
combined success tonight is sure to have a celebratory air about it -
a victory of sorts in a year chock-full with pointless celebrity searches
and talent competitions.
Live, Royksopp really go for it - jumping around like loons and hitting
pretty much anything that might make a noise. You can expect most of the
tracks from last year's Melody AM, including all those songs off
the adverts that helped make the album the sleeping seller of the summer.
Miss Kitten is bound to be her filthy self - black leather, dirty lyrics,
suggestive dance moves - the usual kind of thing. More entertaining than
most warm-up acts though. The FC Kahuna live set is still only a few months
old but basically takes the album as a starting point and runs with it.
Fast.
In between and after the live acts, Tom Middleton will be rocking the
Academy with one of his legendary DJ sets - he's sure to take the crowd
with him all the way through to 3am.
Tickets
are still available, but selling fast, so buy soon unless you want to be
stuck in the balcony all night, itching to join the dancing hordes downstairs. |
