Looking Forward To...

The Rapture, various venues
from Fri 5th July...

New York's The Rapture are, for better or worse, going to be hard to avoid over the next few weeks. Following the rapturously* received House of Jealous Lovers single, everyone in London seems to want a piece of their live action.

The new single Olio, while not quite as devastating as Jealous Lovers, continues in the same vein, and hits the shops on July 15th.

Their first scheduled appearance is at 93 Ft East on Fri 5th July, where they play as part of an Output Records night. Also playing are DJs Andrew Weatherall, Black Strobe, Trevor Jackson, LCD Soundsystem (whose new Losing My Edge single is awesome), Sean McLusky, Disastronaut and Rowan Chernin (Bemerton Resort). 8pm-2am, £5 before 9.30pm, £10 after. Get there early, we reckon.

The following day (Sat 6th) they are planning a live appearance at the tiny Rough Trade shop in Covent Garden (16 Neals Yard). Not sure how this will work or when it is - more info from Rough Trade no doubt.

Sunday, bless 'em, they have a day off, before it's back to work on Mon 8th with an appearance at Trash (9pm-3am, 16a West Central St WC1, £4). They're due on at 11ish and again, there's likely to be a bit of a queue.

They then play a few dates in other parts of UK (Cardiff, Wolverhampton, Cornwall) before returning to London on Thu 11th July for a Barfly/Monarch Xfm Xposure gig with Fingathing. Tickets for this are on sale at £8adv from ticketweb.co.uk. They're also doing a gig for Dazed & Confused magazine, but you probably wouldn't want to go to that - it might be too cool and hurt.

So no excuse not to catch what the band themselves reckon will be some pretty energetic shows.

*although deeply unoriginal and not even funny or clever, we couldn't resist using this pun. Sorry.
