The
Liars, Dingwalls
Wed
7th August, 8pm
July
and August is traditionally the quietest time of year for London gigs
and this year is proving no different. Lucky then that we have the ever-industrious
Sean McLusky and the Sonic Mook people busy promoting gigs in the capital
when everyone else is doing the holidays and/or festivals thing.
The
best thing by far to emerge at the Sonic Mook "Future Rock &
Roll" event at the ICA a few weeks back, The Liars pretty much blew
away the competition with their tight rhythms, bubbling polemic, and feathers.
They also look awesome and, in a neat twist, lead singer Angus Andrew
is dating the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O.
Their
debut album, They threw us all in a trench and stuck a monument on
top, is shortly to receive a full UK release on Blast First, so chances
are you'll be hearing a lot more from this lot. They sound like an angrier,
punkier ESG (possibly cos ESG collaborate with them on the album) and
write songs asking "can you HEAR US?" and telling us to "put
down your briefcase". Time Out New York called them "the hardest
rockin' punk dance band EVER".
Support
tonight comes from the equally angry Miss Black America. They hail
from deepest darkest Bury St Edmunds and are a well-meaning, politically-aware
bunch in these times of blandness and ignorance. Joan of Ass prop
up the bill and, despite the comedy name, are also worth checking out.
Oh, and Some Product have just been added to the bill too.
DJ
action from main man Sean McLusky and girls about town Queens
of Noize.
All
that for only £9.
