Looking Forward To...

The Von Bondies Dingwalls, Camden
Tue 17th September

Being "mates of the White Stripes" is certainly not doing the Von Bondies any harm, but the time has surely come for them to step out of the Stripes' shadow, and into the limelight in their own right.

That time could well be tonight, as this is their biggest London headline date so far even though, like most of the other "new breed" of US bands, they've been around for a while. Their rock-solid melodic garage rock sound is also, in short, an absolute blast; nobody does it better.

The album, Lack of Communication, (produced by Jack White) has been out for months now and is the kind of slow burn seller that, 6 months down the line, seems to pop up in everyone's record collection.

It will be forthcoming single Big In Japan that really catapults them into the hit parade though. They've certainly got the tunes, and the looks, to go just as far as their mates, plus there's twice as many of them, so they should get to the promised land of success and fame in double quick time, should they want to.

Unfortunately, this gig is pretty much sold out already. No doubt there will be future dates at bigger venues soon.

Dingwalls is at Camden Lock.
