Death
In Vegas + Electrelane
Sat 19th Oct 2002, Ocean, Hackney
Tue 22nd Oct, ULU
With
the mostly fantastic Scorpio Rising album out there doing the business,
not to mention a hit single to their name, two of dance music's most twisted
geniuses - Richard Fearless and Tim Holmes - finally hit
the road.
Although their music tends to be pretty dark on record (in particular
on 99's Contino Sessions), live it is transformed into a throbbing,
pulsating and sometimes joyful experience. We remember in particular the
almost ecstatic response to encore favourite One More Time a few
years ago at the Shepherd's Bush Empire. Dot Allison's rendition of Dirge
(the one that went "la la la" a lot) was also a spine-tingly
moment.
The Hackney Ocean date went on sale way way back in early summer, and
is long since sold out. It should be a pretty stunning night (running
until 2am) complete with support from Electralane, Mannassa &
Noah, as well as DJ sets.
The ULU date was added more recently and you may still be able to find
a ticket if you're lucky. This is a more conventional 8-11 gig, with support
once again from Brighton's fantastic Electrelane, plus DJ action from
Richard Fearless too. We've been meaning to see this band for months to
see exactly how they work the magic of debut album Rock It To The Moon
live. Listen out too for recent Bush-bashing single I Want to be the
President. All in all, this is shaping up to be one of the gigs of
the year.
