Respect
Festival, Victoria Park
Sat
20th July, 12-8.30pm
If
last year's event in Finsbury Park is anything to go by, Mayor Ken's Respect
'02 event is definitely worth checking out. This time around it takes
place in Victoria Park in East London (nearest tube: Mile End, or bus
#277), a nice setting for what should be a great day out.
The
festival is designed to promote multiculturalism and fight racism, with
a main-stage bill that includes De La Soul, who should go down
a storm with their daisy-age back catalogue and tougher, more streetwise
sounding recent hits such as Oooh and All Good? Other acts
to watch out for include one of the best UK hip hop acts around, Blak
Twang, and the up and coming garage crew Pay As U Go Cartel.
Misty In Roots and Sister India can be expected to provide
some relaxed summer vibes too.
Other
attractions include a Choice FM stage, Club Asia mela marquee, big Cuba
tent, London Comedy Festival Marquee, roots stage, dub stage, kids play
area, plus loads of food and craft stalls and beer tents run by the ever-reliable
Workers' Beer Company.
So
show you oppose racism in all its many forms by coming down to Victoria
Park, having a few drinks and enjoying some great music and laid back
atmosphere. Easy!
